Otherwise, it's just another thing for a student to check off the list---and if you're gonna get a good grade anyway, why bother? I tried to teach unit testing in extracurricular support activities, but it didn't stick like I'd hoped. Later, students started working at tech companies and told me, "You should really have taught us unit testing. It's so important!" It's got to be in the curriculum to be effective, imo.
